Twice Upon a Marigold

Twice Upon a Marigold

By Jean Ferris

Loved it!  This was a great book!  It was a perfect sequel to Once Upon a Marigold, which I also loved.  Basically, this book is a modern day fairy tale...well, it's still set in the past but it's just a new version of a fairy tale, I guess?  The fairy tale ideas are there but it's not like any fairy tale you know.  It's not a fractured fairy tale.

What I really love about this book is that in the first book it's all they-live-happily-ever-after...but in this book you get to see what their life is like when they live happily ever after, and it's not just all perfect in ever after.  I think it's so important to let kids know life isn't a movie all the time and that whoever you prince is, he can't be sweeping you off your feet at every moment, it's just not like that.  I think I have realized that more and more now that we have a son.  We're so busy and we get so caught up with life and with taking care of Jordan that there's not as much time to just focus on each other so it definitely doesn't feel like I'm a glittery princess all the time.  This book puts a little spin on the idea of happily ever after in that it doesn't promise everything will be perfect forever...which is so true to life!  Love it!  I think every girl should read this book!  (And the one that comes before it!)

The Hour I First Believed

Whew!  I made it through this book!  It was a really really really really long book but I was determined to finish it.  I can't say I really liked this book all that much or that I would recommend it to anyone, but it was a well-written book.  I just thought the plot dragged on and that it was hard for me to really see the point of the book after a while.  Plus, it's hard for me to relate to characters who have so many issues.  I'm a pretty optimistic person and I have a positive outlook on life so it's hard to relate to all the problems that popped up in the book.  I read She's Come Undone, which is also by Wally Lamb, and I felt the same way about the main character in that book.  It was just way to depressing for me and completely difficult for me to relate to.  I can say that I read it though!

Due to Inclement Weather...

...Mom got to stay home with Jordy today!  We were sad that Daddy had to go to work today, but we had a fun mother-son bonding day!

First thing to do on a day off?  Make pancakes!  I made just a regular pancake batter with some cinnamon and Cool Whip, of course!  Jordan loved them.  We did also have oranges with our pancakes for a little bit of healthiness.  Jordan also had blueberries that Chad gave him before he left.  Jordan had fun sitting on the couch with his eehee while I made up some yummy pancakes.  I love not having to get dressed and leave the house first thing in the morning!

I love the Shel Silverstein poem about the girl who wants the pancake that's all the way on the bottom.  A stack of pancakes is just a beautiful thing!
I think I've got Jordan hooked on pancakes!  He loves the Cool Whip part the best!
Yum!  (Can you tell this wasn't my first pancake...or my last?)
See!  We did eat oranges!
Then we spent the rest of the morning playing downstairs, upstairs, in Jordy's bedroom and reading on Mommy and Daddy's bed.  We did do some painting and get pretty messy...and then we took a bath!  Jordan is now taking a nap.  Gotta love naps.  I had so much fun spending the day with my kiddo.  He's a fun kid!  (Yes, he's standing in his potty!)

Drew Gooden

This week feels like it is flying!  I am off today due to inclement weather...poor Chad had to go to school.  I forgot that I never posted pictures from Sunday when we went to get Drew Gooden's autograph.  He plays for the Chicago Bulls.  Jordan shook his hand.  Jordan was actually really well-behaved considering it was pretty crowded and he had to wait for a long time!

Drew Gooden shaking Jordan's hand!
Chad had a basketball and a pendant for him to sign.

A Feeling of Hope

Honestly, I feel like there is hope in this world that we'll get through winter, that we'll get through the rest of the school year, that we'll get...another American Idol in this world.  Seriously, when Idol starts I feel refreshed and feel that it will just carry me through to the end of the school year.  I think it comes from there being nothing on TV really until Idol starts and the feeling of anticipation of watching and seeing how everyone does. Did anyone else cry in the beginning when they did the recap thing?  Especially when they showed Elliott Yamin's mom!

I doubt that I'll post regularly about Idol happenings...but I do have to say I loved the man who was visually impaired tonight.  He gave me chills...it might have something to do with his story, but I really did think he had a great voice.  What an inspiration.

On a side note, when I ran the Chicago marathon, there was a runner who was blind.  How cool is that?

I also really liked the girl who was young with long dark hair.  She was cute and I liked her singing...not to be confused with the chic in the bikini...I sooooo did not like her.  I also liked the dude with the really low voice, not really his singing, but I thought he was a cool guy.  It bugs me when they are mean to someone who seems to just be so genuinely nice.  That's show business, right?
