Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging
By Louise Rennison
I had to read this book after I saw a few of my middle school students chose it from the school library and 1. they were way to excited about these books, 2. I know what snogging means, and 3. the back of the book talked about a Sex God. I was suspicious. There are a ton of books in this series, although I'm not sure I'll be reading the rest of them. Honestly, this book was actually entertaining and I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had read it before knowing and having read the entire Princess Diaries series. This book reminds me a lot of the PD series because it's about a girl in high school who writes in her diary and is trying to figure out hair and boys and friends and little siblings, but mostly boys. I could see how it would be appealing to middle school students, totally.
On a side note, I was in another middle school and was talking to a student about this cool-looking book she had on her desk. It looked so cool, but she read it and it was good but not all that great. Another teacher joined into our conversation and she asked what the girl had thought of the book. They decided to call the book "cute". It was funny to listen to them discuss books and decide that if it was a good book, an easy read, but not an amazing must-read well-written book they agreed those would be "cute" books. So I guess I have to say this book was cute.

Cute is a good description of some books. They are not earth moving, life changing, deep and meaningful, just cute.
