This was a cute story about a boy who always tells the truth.  He gets in trouble when he has to do a report of a book about a dog...and, of course, the dog dies at the end.  He gets in trouble because he tells the truth and his teacher is deeply offended that he doesn't like the story.  

I just finished reading Swindle and the writing is pretty similar because it's the same author. I think Gordon Korman is a great young adult author.  I think boys and girls would like his books.
